BREXIT UPDATE Johnson declines to say whether N.Ireland will stay in EU customs union

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he did not want to give a running commentary on Brexit talks when asked whether Northern Ireland would be leaving the EU customs union amid hopes an agreement can be found before an Oct. 31 deadline.

Speaking during a school visit in South Buckinghamshire, Johnson asked reporters to “look at everything I’ve said previously and you can draw your own conclusions from that.”

Johnson met with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar in Cheshire on Thursday (October 10) in a last ditch bid to avert an acrimonious separation or another delay after Brexit descended into a public row between London and Brussels earlier this week.

To get a done deal, Johnson must master the complexities of the Irish border before getting the approval of Europe’s biggest powers and then sell any deal to the British parliament in which he has no majority and which he suspended unlawfully last month.
