EU Parliament “very sad” at Brexit vote – Schulz

The European Parliament is “very sad” about the United Kingdom’s vote to leave the European Union, but acknowledges that is a sovereign decision British voters can make, EP President Martin Schulz said Friday. Britain’s vote to leave the EU forced the resignation of Prime Minister David Cameron and dealt the biggest blow to the European project of greater unity since World War Two.

“The parliament has decided to meet on Tuesday morning at 10:00 to a part session in the European Parliament and to adopt a resolution assessing the outcome of the referendum and describing the necessary next steps,” Schulz said.

The UK-EU settlement is now “null and void” after Thursday’s  Brexit vote and the remaining European Union members must focus on protecting the Eurozone, Martin Schulz said.
